DIFFERENT YET THE SAME
BY SARAH STYLES

Announcing my first book!

My children’s book, Different Yet the Same, is aimed at children around three to five years old, and is coming out in February.  Through the main characters Mim, a young wheelchair user, and her friend Pip, who is Deaf, children and their parents can explore basic ideas on how to interact with disabled people and enjoy all we have in common. This is the perfect age to introduce topics of disability and inclusion as noticing differences between people is natural and parents won’t have to worry about finding the right thing to say. The style of writing suits those who are neurodivergent and each book includes Auslan. Pre-order now for a signed book with a personal message!

When you look at Mim and Pip, you notice something different about each of them. As we learn more about their differences we find out what makes them the same as us too.

"This book broaches a truly important subject with compassion and sensitivity. Readers will be able to see physical differences in the characters and understand this is nothing to be frightened of, nor are they to be ridiculed. A children's book for our times. Thank you Sarah!"
- Children’s author, Melanie Ifield

"This book clearly explores the concepts of similarities and differences between children with disabilities and their peers. It provides age appropriate understanding of hearing aid implants and wheelchairs to young children"

“There’s not enough books out there that’s appropriate for young kids. And it’s a basic education simple enough for young kids.”

“Different Yet The Same by Sarah Styles is a heartwarming children's story that promotes acceptance and understanding of differences in others. The story is written in a simple and easy-to-understand language that children can easily comprehend. The author does an excellent job of explaining what a wheelchair is and how it helps people who have difficulty walking. The same goes for hearing aids, where the author explains how they work and how they help people who have difficulty hearing. The story also emphasizes that while some people may be different, they are still the same as everyone else in many ways. They all enjoy playing and having fun, regardless of their differences. The author also provides useful advice on how to interact with people who use wheelchairs or hearing aids. It is okay to offer help, but it is also important to respect their choices and preferences. The story teaches children to be kind, empathetic, and respectful towards others, regardless of their differences. Different Yet The Same by Sarah Styles is a beautifully written and illustrated children's story that encourages acceptance, understanding, and kindness towards people who are different. It is an excellent book for parents, caregivers, and educators to use to teach children about diversity and inclusion.”
